Donations Needed Mega Food Drive - NovemberWe’re grateful to be featured in a recent article highlighting the partnership between Light on the Hill and the San Antonio Food Bank, where nearly 36,000 pounds of food were distributed to families across the Hill Country. We praise God for the hands and hearts in our ministry who continue to serve others with love and compassion. Emergency Response Volunteers are Blessing Flood Survivors!Last Saturday volunteers from KFUMC, St John Lutheran Church in Boerne, and Firth Lutheran Church in Floresville worked together to correct drainage problems at a house that flooded on July 4th. The St John’s Lutheran Church (Boerne) volunteers have been working with KFUMC’s Emergency Response Team regularly for six weeks, and last weekend they brought supplies for our ERT trailer! Thank you so much to the St John’s congregation for the tool belts, batteries, battery chargers, step ladder, and personal protection supplies. We are so blessed to have the chance to meet and work with these servants! Winter Drive 2025Donate warm clothes to help a neighbor this winter.  Flood ResourcesDear Church Family, We are grateful that our Mustard Seed Food Pantry can help our neighbors throughout the year with food assistance, but especially during the most recent government shutdown. Thousands of families in Kerr County are affected by the suspension of SNAP benefits. During the month of November, we will be collecting non-perishable food donations in the lobby area at Kerrville First United Methodist Church. Shopping baskets will be available for you to drop off your donations throughout the week and on Sunday mornings. Some food items that are needed are canned chicken, canned chili, canned stew, macaroni and cheese boxes, canned spaghetti sauce, beans and rice. If you want to give a monetary donation, please make your check out to KFUMC and put Mustard Seed in the memo or you can give electronically through the KFUMC website. Just go to GIVE, then click on Give Online and scroll on down to Mustard Seed Ministries. Thank you for your generosity! Beth Palmer Candy, Costumes, and Cars — Oh My!Trunk or Treat was spooktacular! Between the cool trunks, creative costumes, and plenty of candy, our community came together for a night full of laughter, love, and a little spooky fun! Thank you to all who helped make Trunk or Treat so super sweet! Harvest Fest Recap 2025Saturday was a day filled with fun at our Harvest Festival! We loved spending time with our community this past weekend—playing games, dancing to DJ David, enjoying hayrides, getting our faces painted, sharing food, and so much more. What a wonderful way to celebrate the new season and spread the Lord’s love throughout our community. A huge thank-you to everyone who helped make this event possible. What a truly blessed day of faith, fellowship, and friends! UGRA River Trail Cleanup - Sign-up! River Trail Cleanup - UGRA.org UGRA is sponsoring a post-flood river trail and park cleanup on Nov 15 from 8 AM to 12 PM. Disaster case managers working in collaboration with REBUILD KERR, have a workspace to further help flood survivors. We pray this space is a blessing to many on this rebuild journey! I am so inspired by all of the resilient folks that make Kerr County such a wonderful place to live and work.  David, Lori and I were blessed to attend UMCOR disaster case management training last week. We learned so much and are now better equipped to help our community as we move forward in the long-term recovery. More people in our community will receive this same great training when UMCOR brings it to Kerrville in a few weeks. We are so grateful to be able to share and equip others with this knowledge. Even if you are not a trained case manager, the core principals of "Do no harm," and "Show compassion," are the ways we show love for our neighbors every day. Our Emergency Response Team under the leadership of Ray Dunton, has been making an impact in our community. Thank you to all of those amazing unpaid servants! FOUND PROJECT We are currently looking for volunteer support on Saturday, 9/27 from 10:30am-3:30pm in Ingram, TX. Volunteers will be committing to hard and dirty work that day so please keep that in mind when recruiting volunteers. We are looking for 5-10 volunteers to support us. Some notes below outline what your volunteers can expect for the day. Please let me know if you have any questions. We appreciate it! lunch will be provided you will be cleaning hard goods & laundry found on the Guadalupe River. Please wear clothing that can handle: • Car wash and power washing • Being outside in the sun • Handling items covered in dirt and mud • Trips to the laundromat Bring any personal items you may need such as hats, sunscreen, or water bottles. We highly suggest changes of shoes including water boots. We have gloves and aprons available, but if you’d prefer your own gloves or aprons, please bring them. Masks – we do not provide masks, so bring your own if you’d like to wear one. The job is hard work. The bins are heavy, and the more people that show up, the easier the load . Floods, tornadoes and hurricanes change our lives and landscapes. We move from one place to another. Loved ones pass away. Our health changes. Life is different…will it ever be the same as it was yesterday? No. We are experiencing our “new normal." And, there’s hope in our new normal. God was with us in our yesterday… And He’s with us now… Creating. Again and again. That’s what He does. He’s The Creator. Things are different now…and He’s at work, Creating. Building. Restoring. Guiding. Each and every step of the process. And there’s progress. So, just when you’re settling into your new normal...Things will change again. But God never changes. Each of His days are normal for Him. No challenge is too big…for Him. the FEMA Individual Assistance registration deadline has been extended to September 28, 2025, for Texans impacted by the July 4th floods. SAFB Annual Feeding Hope Banquet Rev. Monica O'Donnell gave the opening prayer at the San Antonio Food Bank Annual Feeding Hope Banquet last week. Her words were so perfectly bathed in the healing balm of Jesus that you could have heard a pin drop in the crowded room. We are grateful for all the SAFB does to help our community year-round. I hope this finds you in good health and with abundant peace. The past eight weeks have been a very difficult time in our community. While we are still grieving lives lost and devastation to property, we are looking forward with hope and resilience in our hearts. Since July 4th at Light on the Hill, we have served as a shelter for families awaiting news of missing loved ones. We then transitioned into hosting first responders for five weeks as they carried out their vital work. Today, through our partnership with the amazing organization Mercy Chefs, we continue to feed first responders, volunteers, and anyone in need of a hot meal. Mercy Chefs is using our Nutrition Center at LOTH and will continue to serve our community through their Beacon of Hope Ministry for as long as they are needed. It seems very fitting to have the Beacon of Hope at Light on the Hill! Mercy Chefs has added several new pieces of equipment to our commercial kitchen, which will remain as a gift to us after they leave. Many of you are already volunteering with Mercy Chefs. Thank you! Our transitional housing cabins will provide safe and sound homes for families who were displaced by the flood. We are not sure how long the recovery phase will take, but we are committed to walking alongside these folks until they are in safe, permanent housing. New Dawn will continue to be a light after a time of darkness for our neighbors needing a “hand up.” We are working with UMCOR (United Methodist Committee on Relief), TMF (Texas Methodist Foundation), The Rio Texas Conference of Methodist Churches, and the Community Foundation of the Texas Hill Country, as well as other organizations, to create a plan for moving forward during the long-term recovery process. We feel so grateful for the trust our community has in the important work we do. For a “time such as this,” Light on the Hill will continue to strive to share the love and hope of Jesus Christ with our hurting community. The disaster work in Kerr County has been constantly changing and evolving, and I am so proud of how hard our staff and unpaid servants have worked to help in any way needed. We have remained committed to serving our neighbors in need in our community with support just as we have always done. In July and August 2682 individuals / 920 families received food assistance, and more than 500 children were gifted everything needed for a great start to the new school year. Light on the Hill continues to serve as a hub of hope in our community! Blessings, Beth Love God. Love Others. Make A Difference. This is our mission statement. Sounds simple, but living out this mantra takes daily intention. The good news? We don't have to do it alone. Together, we can embody this mission and make a lasting impact. First, love God. Well, that seems like a no-brainer. But loving God is more than just an emotion. It involves a surrender of oneself to God's will and a commitment to living according to His teachings. This includes obeying His commandments, prioritizing His word, and actively engaging in worship and service. Loving God is about aligning one's life with God's purposes and demonstrating love for Him through actions and a transformed life. Second, love others. This means that we are to treat others with kindness and compassion, recognizing the inherent value and dignity of all individuals. If we truly love God, then we must love every one of His children, even the ones who think and act differently than us. Don't we want everyone to know how much they are loved by God? The way we treat others is a reflection of Christ's love. Finally, make a difference. There are many ways to make a difference in the world and impact those around us. Making a difference as a follower of Christ essentially involves a holistic approach. It is about living out our faith, demonstrating God's love through our actions, serving those in need, and sharing the hope and transformation found in Christ.
