Our Back to School Bash will be Saturday, August 3 at Light on the Hill! If you have gently used clothes that your child has outgrown, we would love for you to consider sharing them. Hill Country Emmaus Gathering is Monday, June 3 at Light on the Hill at 6pm.
This week's Midweek Mission Moment is brought to you by the YAM (Young Adult Ministry) Costa Rica Mission team! We're super excited to share our mission trip with y'all! Pura Vida! Our worksite in Limón, Costa Rica at the Agape Church. We dug trenches, leveled ground, and tied rebar for four days! One of our group's favorite activities while in Costa Rica was the two days we did VBS at the church and the local school. Here we are playing sharks and minnows (Tiburones y pececillos) to tie into the theme of our VBS: Jonah and the Whale! Despite our hard work, we still had plenty of time to roast mallows, take naps, and goof off together. "God doesn't NEED. So missions is about God WANTING to bring us alongside what He's been doing. I'm grateful for KFUMC, Costa Rica, YAM, and the calling God is placing on people's lives to have made this trip possible."
-Pastor Spencer Thomas Everywhere you look, there is anger and hate being exhibited. In our community, as it is election time. In our state, as we hear about the border crossings. In our country, as protests are being held on college campuses. And throughout our world, fighting in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine quickly come to mind. And these are just a few examples. But Jesus said in John 13:35 that people will know that we are his disciples by our love for one another. So, as Christians we are to act differently than the world. To start, we are to be kind. Here is something I just read on Christian author and pastor Greg Laurie’s blog about being kind… Every now and then, cell phone videos showing someone on a rant pop up on social media or the news. The people in those videos are really upset about something, and they’re screaming and yelling. Don’t be like those people. Ever. You are a child of God, so be known for your generosity. Be known for your love and compassion, not for your anger. The Bible tells us, “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them” (Ephesians 4:29 NLT). If you disagree with someone, that’s fine. But don’t be obnoxious; be nice. I’ve found that the greatest joys in life come from a relationship with God and from relationships with others. Also, some of the simplest joys in life are before us every day. Savor the sunset. Enjoy the meal. Linger with your family and friends. Have fun. All too often, we’re thinking about what’s coming next: “When this comes, I will be so happy. When that happens, it will be so great.” But what about the present moment? Don’t be in such a rush to get to the next thing. I sometimes find myself in a group where everyone is on their cell phone. In such situations, I send everyone a text that says something like this: “Be here now. Let’s put these phones away. Let’s have a conversation with each other.” When you sit down for a meal, don’t take your cell phone to the table. If you’re wearing a watch that sends you alerts, take it off. Have a conversation with the people around you. As followers of Jesus Christ, let’s be known as encouragers, not discouragers. Let’s be known as people who build others up, not as people who tear others down. MEGA Food Pantry will be early this month due to Memorial Day at the end of May and due to the temperature increase that happens in Texas during the summer, the hours are earlier. My mind instantly thought of the saying, “Bloom where you are planted!” I also remembered scripture where Jesus reminds us that He will provide everything we need. We are not to worry but stay focused on the present and live every moment to the fullest! "You are on the path of My choosing. There is no randomness about your life. Here and now comprise the coordinates of your daily life. Most people let their moments slip through their fingers, half-lived. They avoid the present by worrying about the future or longing for a better time or place. They forget that they are creatures who are subject to the limitations of time and space. They forget their Creator, who walks with them only in the present. Every moment is alive with My glorious Presence, to those whose hearts are intimately connected with Mine. As you give yourself more and more to a life of constant communion with Me, you will find that you simply have no time for worry. Thus, you are freed to let My Spirit direct your steps, enabling you to walk along the path of Peace." …from Jesus Calling by Sarah Young From Jane Davis… I am praying for you this morning… Sometimes we can only see inches in front of our vision… And in the distant horizon, everything’s a blur…foggy…hazy. Oh! How we wish we could see it all! Wish we had the answers! Wish things would be easier…wish we didn’t have to trudge through trials. Wish. Wish. Wish. Wishing doesn’t make it so. But TRUSTING in Jesus, Who sees the Big Picture, calms our souls… We don’t have to know our future, because He does. We don’t have to wring our hands with anxiety, because He’s got us. He sees, He hears, and He knows what’s best. Trust Him. “Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and lean not on your own understanding.” Proverbs 3:5 “Trust God from the bottom of your heart; don’t try to figure out everything on your own.” Proverbs 3:5 (The Message) Emmaus Gathering at Light on the Hill dining hall on Monday, May 6. Meal at 6pm and worship at 7pm
