 TOGETHER The world is watching. The way Christians talk about their church has great impact, and the way we speak of other local congregations, pastors and the church around the world speaks volumes. Is the body of Jesus Christ united in love and mission, or are we divided? How does the world see us? Are we living as examples of grace, love, and unity? Here are some ways to be a witness in how we think about, speak of and interact with other faith communities. My prayer is that we step into some of these practices and become a witness in our community of what the family of God is supposed to look like. Speak well of other churches and pastors and pray for them. Every chance we have, speak words of blessing and affirmation over faith communities in our area. These are family members. Share words of blessing. Be kind. Pray for our faith communities and their leaders. Partner with other churches. Sometimes churches feel the need to do everything on their own, even when another church in the area is doing the same thing wonderfully. But we want to join together and let our community see churches that partner and work together. We are blessed to work with other faith communities with food relief efforts and through Habitat for Humanity, to just mention a few of the ways we partner. The world is watching. Let’s give witness to our unity. We are the family of God. Let’s shine the light of Jesus through our example. Rejoice where God is working. Celebrate where the kingdom of God is expanding. Let the world see that we are united, partners, family and one. Volunteer Opportunities We could use extra hands, please join us Monday!  Join us to help out at 9:45AM, October 29th. Other EventsChurch Picnic at Camp Mystic, Oct 27th  We need your participation to help us provide a safe, fun event for lots of children! Please bring your vehicle and park in the back parking lot of the church no later than 5:15pm. You can decorate your trunk or dress in costume (please nothing too scary) or just come as you are. We are providing candy but we need you to help us hand it out! Come join us for lots of fun! Trunk or Treat at KFUMC will be on Wednesday, October 30, from 5:30-6:30pm!  We need your participation to help us provide a safe, fun event for lots of children! Please bring your vehicle and park in the back parking lot of the church no later than 5:15pm. Come join us on Saturday, November 2, at Light on the Hill for The Harvest Festival!  Come one and all! Invite your family, friends and neighbors to join us at this free community wide event! Enjoy the live music of Tim Porter and Gary Hatch! Take part in hay rides for all ages, a petting zoo, bounce houses, face painting and games for all the kiddos!

In our community, as it is election time. In our state, as we hear about the border crossings. In our country, as protests are being held on college campuses. And throughout our world, fighting in the Middle East and the war in Ukraine quickly come to mind. And these are just a few examples. But Jesus said in John 13:35 that people will know that we are his disciples by our love for one another. So, as Christians we are to act differently than the world. To start, we are to be kind. Here is something I just read on Christian author and pastor Greg Laurie’s blog about being kind… Every now and then, cell phone videos showing someone on a rant pop up on social media or the news. The people in those videos are really upset about something, and they’re screaming and yelling. Don’t be like those people. Ever. You are a child of God, so be known for your generosity. Be known for your love and compassion, not for your anger. The Bible tells us, “Don’t use foul or abusive language. Let everything you say be good and helpful, so that your words will be an encouragement to those who hear them” (Ephesians 4:29 NLT). If you disagree with someone, that’s fine. But don’t be obnoxious; be nice. I’ve found that the greatest joys in life come from a relationship with God and from relationships with others. Also, some of the simplest joys in life are before us every day. Savor the sunset. Enjoy the meal. Linger with your family and friends. Have fun. All too often, we’re thinking about what’s coming next: “When this comes, I will be so happy. When that happens, it will be so great.” But what about the present moment? Don’t be in such a rush to get to the next thing. I sometimes find myself in a group where everyone is on their cell phone. In such situations, I send everyone a text that says something like this: “Be here now. Let’s put these phones away. Let’s have a conversation with each other.” When you sit down for a meal, don’t take your cell phone to the table. If you’re wearing a watch that sends you alerts, take it off. Have a conversation with the people around you. As followers of Jesus Christ, let’s be known as encouragers, not discouragers. Let’s be known as people who build others up, not as people who tear others down.  MEGA Food Pantry will be early this month due to Memorial Day at the end of May and due to the temperature increase that happens in Texas during the summer, the hours are earlier. Mega will be May 13 from 8-10am.  Mobile Mustard Seed will be May 14 from 9-10am. Jesus Christ is the Prince of Peace! We pray for peace… "God of peace, as we light the second Advent candle of peace, may Your peace fill our hearts and our world. Help us to be peacemakers in our relationships and communities. In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen." It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas at KFUMC and Light on the Hill!   Mega Food Pantry was cold and wet but all of the wonderful unpaid servants brightened everyone’s day with their love and kindness! We are grateful for the opportunity to share the love of Christ through food and smiles with 344 families (1,045 individuals) on Monday. Thank you for your support! These folks sorted 35,000 pounds of food and shared with almost 350 families on a HOT morning! Our community is blessed!!

Monica goes on to say, “The Table is ‘church’ reinvented. Around the table, dinner conversations will center around food and faith stories. The table provides an opportunity for guests to share and hosts to listen. Our targeted guests will initially be a select group of friends from our marginalized community. We want our Mustard Seed friends who have become our family to be our first dinner guests.” Writer and scholar, Leonard Sweet once said, Whenever I’m asked, ‘What is God up to?’ my most common answer is, ‘Have you heard of dinner church?” Dinner church is a type of microchurch where the meal and the table are not simply points of distinction from other churches; they are essential to the congregation’s makeup. Microchurches are intentionally small, which allows the type of inclusion that notices everyone and a place where all are heard and given the opportunity to contribute. Lastly, Monica shared, “Authentic fellowship leads to discipleship, one meal at a time. When new disciples start sharing stories from the table with others, those others will come, and that is what I call “church.” Vernon Fosner, who has written books on the dinner church movement says, “For Jesus, the dinner table was the invitation to faith. Jesus clearly embedded the gospel into the dinner-table theology.” Please join us in praying for this new ministry and all that God will do through it and among the participants. …Beth Palmer REMINDER for the Mixed Pickleball Tournament on January 28th AND the Mega Food Drive on January 30th.
