REFLECTION, REPENTANCE, RECONCILIATION This past week, I have been spending time organizing closets at both my home and at Light on the Hill. I procrastinated for a while and finally just jumped in and started doing it. While I have been doing the work, I must confess, I have regretted doing this several times. But after I have completed the tasks, I am so glad that I did it! This reminds me of our Lenten journey. Lent is a 40-day period of preparation for Easter when Christians reflect on their faith and prepare for renewal. The season of Lent offers followers of Christ time to give attention to reflection, repentance, and reconciliation.
Other practices of Lent include prayer, fasting, and almsgiving. Lent helps us practice the virtues of faith, hope, and love. All of these practices help Christians develop a closer relationship with God. Lent is a time of self-examination, forgiveness, and preparation for Easter. It's a time to learn or relearn the story of salvation, which is a story of rescue, restoration, and reassurance. Lent is a time to reflect on the suffering and death of Christ, and to sorrow and repent for sins. It's also a time to be aware of God's presence and to be freed from the bondage of sin. I encourage each of us to spend time reflecting, repenting, and reconciling. It is like spring cleaning…no one is fired up to do it, but once you do, you are so glad you did! Grateful for our Mustard Seed Unpaid Servants who bless so many in our community! What a blessing! We have the most faithful unpaid servants who deliver food each week to our homebound neighbors. The Morning Rotary Club blessed Mustard Seed Pantry with more than 1,200 pounds of venison! What a blessing the Kerr County Inter-agency Networking Group is for our community! We meet monthly to work together to serve our neighbors in need. Together, we are better!
Do you remember that song, “I’ve got that joy, joy, joy, joy down in my heart, where? Down in my heart, where? Down in my heart to stay!” I used to sing that song with my kids when they were young, and then when they got older, if they were in a bad mood, I would sing it just to aggravate them. But in all seriousness, if we have Jesus, we have everything we need to have joy. Sometimes, when we are going through a difficult time, we need to be reminded of this. I pray joy over each of us today! Thank you to all of our amazing unpaid servants who blessed our community with wonderful food on Monday at the Mega Food Pantry! You brought joy to many! Thank you to all of our new unpaid servants who served at Mobile Mustard Seed on Tuesday! Methodist Healthcare Ministries Leadership Meeting!Mark your calendars for the Palm Sunday Celebration! I am praying for you this morning…
Awhile back I was given my Dad’s old baseball glove. As I study it, I first notice how worn it is…lots of baseballs went “thud” in that glove. And then as I look again, I notice that there are only 4 fingers on this glove! Huh? Daddy had 5 fingers. Why 4 on this weathered old mitt? Do you ever feel like something is missing in your life? Is it strength? Confidence? Courage? Endurance? Assurance? Love? Hope? Peace? Joy? Back to the aged, 4-finger glove… Possibly, since our “baby finger” is the weakest part of our hand, having 2 fingers together gives added strength and support to grip the ball. Hmmmm. This is like one person helping another…walking the journey with them. Like God walking with us, giving us strength and support for our upward climbs. Like helping us grip the hard balls in life when they go “thud”. “Two people are better than one, for they can help each other succeed.” Ecclesiastes 4:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be frightened, and do not be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you may go.” Joshua 1:9 -Beth Palmer |
